Search Engine Optimization Case Study: Number One on Google

To improve Green River Stone Company's rankings on the search engines. Green River Stone Company offers natural art fossil fish and stone products for museums, private collectors, interior designers and architects.

Solution

Green River Stone Company (GRSC), one of our clients, approached us about their rankings at the search engines, primarily Google. We immediately began search engine optimization (SEO) research along with finding out which search terms GRSC considered important for them and their client base.

After weeks of research we finally had a strategy for improving the GRSC web site in terms of search engine optimization. We implemented all planned changes and resubmitted the site to all major search engines.

GRSC started climbing in the search results immediately after the first visit by Google's Spider (site indexer), at first fairly moderately, but never the less a huge improvement over previous rankings. Soon the GRSC rankings picked up speed and finally reached the top ten listings — worldwide. Our strategy had proven successful.

What do you mean, "worldwide?" Aren't all Google rankings worldwide? Fair question.

Why we say worldwide has an explanation. Since the terms we optimized are more global, then i.e. "Car dealers in Arlington, Virginia," which would produce mostly local Arlington results, our challenge was much greater. Our first example is "Fossil murals," which is a term which could be searched by anyone interested in fossils for any number of reasons. Since there is no locale in the search, it will produce results from all over the world.

Over time GRSC has kept climbing the rankings on Google, so successfully, 9 out of 10 important search terms are among the top ten — worldwide. And 5 out of 10 reached the magic number one — worldwide.
